Nuclear Medicine Technologist : Full Scope of Practice in New York's Southern Finger Lakes
Elmira, New York | $82,000–$105,000 + Up to $15,000 Sign-On Bonus | Full-Time
An Opportunity Worth a Closer Look
For many nuclear medicine technologists, the work eventually narrows: the same camera, the same protocols, the same room. This position moves in the other direction.
A.W. Forbes is representing a full-time Nuclear Medicine Technologist opening with Arnot Health in Elmira, New York. The role spans general diagnostic imaging, nuclear cardiology, radiopharmaceutical preparation, therapeutic procedures, and a mobile nuclear cardiology service that brings imaging directly to physician offices across New York and Pennsylvania.
For a technologist who wants to use the full range of their training, and to be trusted to work independently, this opening deserves consideration.
Why This Role Stands Out
✓ Full scope of practice. Diagnostic studies, nuclear cardiology, hot lab work, and therapeutic administrations, all within one position.
✓ Independence in the field. On mobile days, you transport, set up, and operate a mobile gamma camera system at physician offices, working directly with physicians, nurses, and patients as the on-site imaging professional.
✓ Every patient population. Care extends from neonates through geriatrics.
✓ Room to grow. Arnot Health lists advancement and cross-training opportunities, tuition assistance, and continuing education support among its benefits.
✓ Open to new graduates. One year of experience is preferred, but motivated new graduates will be considered.
The Clinical Opportunity
You will report to the Supervisor of Nuclear Medicine and perform procedures across Arnot Health hospital and physician office settings. The work includes:
-
Diagnostic and nuclear cardiology: Performing studies, running equipment quality control, reviewing physician orders for appropriateness, preparing patients, administering radiopharmaceuticals, inserting IVs, and acquiring and processing images using gamma cameras, PACS, and nuclear medicine management systems.
-
Radiopharmacy: Ordering, preparing, and calculating doses; managing Tc99m kits and bulk supplies under sterile technique.
-
Radioactive materials management: Overseeing ordering, receipt, distribution, storage, and waste in compliance with departmental, hospital, and New York State regulations.
-
Therapeutic nuclear medicine: Coordinating with referring offices and radiologists, confirming pre-testing and documentation, and administering therapeutic doses under full radiation safety precautions.
-
Mobile nuclear cardiology: Safely transporting and operating equipment in varied office environments throughout the New York–Pennsylvania region.
-
Quality and compliance: Participating in accreditation activities, annual training, and continuing education.
The position calls for someone who enjoys troubleshooting technical and clinical problems and who values the trust that comes with independent work.
